Ice and Snow Forecast Progs
Buried in snow!

This is our new page where you can obtain the latest snowfall and ice accumulation forecasts associated with any inbound storms. These products are based solely of the latest guidance information, and short term model output data. These products are only "estimates", and should not be considered final since things can and often does change dramatically. Both of these products are routinely updated twice per day, and more frequently, as is necessary.
IMPOTANT NOTE: To view any one graphic, just click on the desired day tabs. Some changes needed to be made to some graphic maps currently used. One of those changes was to discontinue the under 4 inches maps. This is because snow accumulations under 4 inches does not constitute a significant snow event. The maps will appear out to three (3) days ahead, and each period will have specific snow accumulation contour maps. The contours will appear in the following accumulation ranges:

4 to 6 inches 7 to 9 inches =>10 inches

Snowfall Potential

CURRENT PROG FORECAST CYCLE: 12 UTC Issued: 1327Z Tue Jan 23, 2018

Day One       |       Day Two        |       Day Three       |        Snow Accumulation Potential

NOTE: A new graphic map has been included, it's called the Snow Accumulation Potential. This graphic will illustrate in color contours, the degree of likelihood the forecast snowfall will occur. In other words, this graphic will show the probability of the expected snow accumulations, based on the latest model solutions. In a way, you can think of this as a confidence level for the forecast snow amounts. This is explained in the following table:

Minimal Potential

Medium Potential

High Potential

There is a 20 percent potential for significant snowfall.
There is a 50 percent potential for significant snowfall.
There is a 80 percent potential for significant snowfall.

Freezing rain//Ice storm potential

CURRENT PROG FORECAST CYCLE: 12 UTC Issued: --

Day One
This is the day 1 freezing rain and/or ice storm potential.

Day Two
This is the day 2 freezing rain and/or ice storm potential.

Day 3
This is the day 3 freezing rain and/or ice storm potential.

PLEASE NOTE! The following criteria is used to determine potential ice accumulation:

Ice accumulation of <= 1/10th inch...Freezing rain most likely. Hazardous driving conditions expected.
Ice accumulation of between 1.10th and 1.50 inches...Ice storm most likely. Dangerous travel conditions expected.
